On Slack, archiving a channel means it disappears from the list of your active channels, stopping people from sending new messages and disabling apps installed in the channel. But the chat history it contains will be saved and archived, and you can access the archived channel messages and files anytime via search.

Slack Archive Channels

Every member on the channel, except guests, can archive a channel by default, regardless of their subscription plan. The admins and the owner, on the other hand, can change the permission settings and restrict active members from doing so.

When you archive a channel in your Slack workspace, it deletes all the channel’s members. Slack Bot will alert everyone in a Slack channel when someone archives it.
